Ready to get started? Great, let’s begin with an operation that may seem simple but is absolutely essential: stripping our fabric-covered electrical wire, that is, exposing the copper wires inside the insulating sheaths so we can connect them to any lighting accessory we want.
To perform this very simple task, all you’ll need is a roll of tape and a pair of scissors—items found in every home. In this post, we’ll focus on our round-section cords. First, wrap a strip of tape around the fabric cord about an inch from the end you’ll be stripping. The tape prevents the textile fibers covering the inner wires from fraying during cutting, ensuring a much neater and more attractive result.
Once the cords are exposed, all that’s left is to strip the insulation from the electrical wires. If you have a wire stripper, which you can buy at any hardware store, just use it on the strands. If you don’t have one, don’t worry: simply apply gentle pressure to the wires with the scissors you used earlier to expose the metal filament. At that point, gently pull off the rubber sheath to fully reveal it, and proceed with the connection!
